about tibet tour– should we be worried about tour agency?

I booked a tour of tibet a few months ago, paid in full to travelchinaguide, a china-based agency. I’m leaving in 1 week and still haven’t received the flight confirmation. they continue to assure me I’ll receive the necessary info "in time." should I be worried? Is there some reason why they might not be able to provide info on domestic China flight to me???

Airline flights change prices by a few hundred rmb over a period of a couple of days outside the peak season.

Either your agent is waiting for the best deal on it.

Or he is going to wait until the last minute and over charged you for them.

Use www.elong.net to check the times and prices of the flights, I can’t say that it would show all of them but you will get a rought idea of the prices, but bear in mind the agent will add his cut to the air planes ticket.

    Of course!
Where Are you From? And From TO
    NEED TIBET PERMIT
And only very few travel agents have the right to travel in Tibet

    BEIJING – TIBET
    SHANGHAI- TIBET
    GUANGZHOU- TIBET
    HONG KONG- TIBET
    Which City

    Thanks for you enquiry.

We contacted the Tourism Administration of Tibet Autonomous Region as soon as we saw your question and the anwser is that travelers who want to visit Tibet must join in a Chinese tour group consisting of at least 5 travelers and one Chinese guide.

There’s only a few designated travel agents eligible to arrange packaged tour to Tibet. All other agents are just middle men with details not directly controlled by themselves. Have you paid everything in full? When the worst comes to the worst you can always file a complaint with China’s Tourism Board. Normally agents in China dare not just walk away if they’re staying around for the business, it seems like things are not in their hands, so just continue chasing after for the information.

That seems a bit fishy, doesn’t it? If the travel agency had your Tibet travel authorization, flight, and hotel in order, then they would provide your information without hesitation. It sounds as if they are having problems, most likely with the Tibet travel authorization, since that element can be challenging to obtain. You should continue to pester the travel agency for details and, if possible, make a personal appearance at their office.

some Chinese are cheaters but they are far from fools…

"no flight" means you won’t go to the hotel…
won’t spend money on food and travel services there…
no additional payment for washing sweaty clothes…
    won’t buy souvenirs —
which alltogether would cost three or four times than your "paid in full"…

btw, Tibet is a place with no "paid in full"…
coz no one will pay the travel agency for a bottle of water at the top of the mountain…
or a nice cute yak ride…
or a special coat, rented for unexpected cold weather…

just like in Thailand, it’s "up to you" which costs much more than "a huge fixed price"…
